Implemented a role based access system to implement security and compliance for a health service provider using SharePoint

When a health service provider reviewed his administrative processes and felt the need for improving and automating them they approached Cygnet Infotech.

The need was to have a better system to manage roles, work assignments and taking it through its logical without creating time delaying layers.

We proposed a role based system with escalation matrix and automated workflows to suit the needs.

This Active Directory authentication based system implements following features:

User creation wizard was provided for new user creation
Request redirection to designated authority upon successful submission.
A privilege based dashboard is provided to HR, Security Officers and Application Users to approve user account and assign appropriate privileges
Automated Multi level Role based approval workflow implementation ensures that the user request is directed to the specific employee.
In case of unattended requests the issue is automatically escalated to the superiors so that necessary actions could be taken well in time; thus reducing the response time for each requests
Automatic email alerts were sent to relevant stakeholders.

The system has automated the complete user creation and role assignment system leading to major productivity gains.

Background

The client a health service provider wanted to setup a Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) in order to implement access control to improve security and compliance. He wanted a system that could help him to create users and integrate security and access policies across application in accordance with the organizational structure and responsibilities.

The client wanted a portal where the designated users could post requests for user creation and privilege assignment. The system was supposed to implement an automated workflow for user account approval and privilege assignment. The system was also supposed to provide escalation at designated intervals.

The client wanted integration with Active Directory so that he could reuse his existing user accounts.

On the portal created on SharePoint, the employees could request user creation and user authorization approval using user friendly wizard screens.
